Helping You Find Large Format Lenses and Information

This website is here in an attempt to help people looking for information on and places to purchase large format lenses. As a large format photographer, I know that it's a real struggle sometimes to get hold of some of these lenses and in many cases even to find the most basic of information about them. As digital photography becomes more and more mainstream and the art of film photography, particularly large format photography, falls further out of the realm of accessibility the challenge to locate certain items (many of which are no longer being manufactured) becomes greater and greater.

What I've tried to do:

In searching for cameras, lenses and accessories for myself I've come across and compiled, mainly in memory at this point, information on large format lenses and lens manufacturers and have tried to reconstitute much of it here. As of August 2009 this is a new site and I will be building on it regularly with new pages dedicated to certain items, as well as making posts on large format photography and the tools of the trade in general.

While there are various places that large format lenses can be found for sale, I have decided that one of the best places to look is Ebay. There are several reasons for this... Many of the lenses that are useful for large format cameras, particularly formats larger than 4x5, are no longer in production or have no direct retailer in the United States, and are therefore only available 2nd hand. Another, perhaps even more obvious reason is that lenses, even new lenses in many cases, can be had on Ebay for much less money than would be required if purchasing from a specialty camera equipment retailer. What I've done with this website is to provide in a simple categorically separated (by brand and focal length in most cases) way of searching through Ebay's listings to find the lenses you are most interested in. For example if you were searching for a Fujinon lens, simply click on the "Fujinon" tab at the top of the site and you will be shown live auctions on Ebay for only fujinon large format lenses. I will soon be adding further filters for type of lens and focal length under each manufacturer. Alternatively you may browse lenses based on focal length starting from the home page or use the search feature in the upper right corner to search for a specific lens. The auctions are all live feeds directly from the auction site and are updated continuously.
